Taking Stock of Science Standards Implementation: A Summit

Completed

The Board of Science Education of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is hosting a public summit to take stock of the implementation of state science standards and determine the next steps to consider for continuing or reinvigorating implementation efforts. The summit will serve as a setting to consider implementation across all states and territories, identify successes and challenges, and identify areas where additional resources or work is needed. Virtual sessions were held on October 14 and 15 and December 8, 2021. We are currently planning for an in-person session to be held on April 26, 2022.

Description

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, in partnership with the Council of State Science Supervisors, will plan and execute a public summit to take stock of the status of the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and determine the next steps possible to continue and even accelerate implementation. The proposed summit will serve as a setting to consider the implementation of the NGSS across all of the states and territories, identify successes and challenges, and identify areas were additional resources or work is needed.
The workshop committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the workshop, proceedings of a workshop of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
